The Walk

By: Vanya Sahi

Dusk it was,

The silhouette of the evening sun thrust upon my face,

An even pavement for a foundation for my feet,

It was a walk etched upon my mind!

The melodious tune passing in ears,

In the la-la-la land world,

Flashback to my repertoire of my memories,

Gay and only gay,

It was a walk etched upon my mind!

Face towards the tang sky,

Widened the aperture of beauty,

From sprint I became the stroll,

My gait the centre of the road,

It was a walk that rode....

My mind to tranquility.

A moment when everything darkened,

My spirit focused upon the universe,

The breeze gushing against my face,

Brought a tingle to my heart,

Rejoiced at my dance the other spirits...

What was it? How did this happen?

Qualms went,

“It was the walk,

“It was the walk,”

she said.

'Chai'-India's Elixir

You get up in the wee hours, get ready and grab your coffee on your way to work. This all changes when you enter the world of India which heralds a time of outright diversity and inclusivity.

Waking up at dawn in India means only one thing- sipping onto chai (tea). The country has had quite a history with chai as it is emblematic of wisdom. At first, with royalty it carried down with the other generations, gradually. For all the Indian artists, poets, inventors and workers, masala chai has always been an enduring source of inspiration for them. Eventually, chai became an indispensable part of the Indian heritage.

There are inordinate amount of memories embedded with chai- drinking it with your beloved partner, family member or yourself while admiring the landscape of dawn or dusk. Undoubtedly, it leaves an indelible impression on one's mind.
Similarly, it was one such morning, raining cats and dogs, when my mother ( a habitual tea drinker) and me were sitting in the balcony enjoying the beautiful tears of nature. At that moment, we were endlessly spurting all about my childhood memories. It was a moment I would always want to cherish.

The amalgamation of the tea ingredients- cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, cumin, and tea leaves create such an antioxidant drink that completely reboots your mind and soul. I was having a mild sore throat infection during the quarantine, so I decided to sip onto some 'Chai Tea Latte' for a few days. Within less three days, my sore throat cured as well as drinking that rejuvenating tea certainly brought me productive ideas to begin with in this disease-time isolation.

In crux, 'Chai'- India's Elixir, has even the next generation going into new waters with this cultural beverage. As they always say- ' everything beings, continues and ends with 'Chai'!!

Being Indian-American!!!

Four years ago, I was a girl indigenous to the Indian culture yet completely born out of the American environment. My parents decided to bring me to India for my secondary education. The Vanya Sahi who was in America simply had a mind amid the materialistic world. However, the moment I entered this nation, it heralded a time period of diversity and inclusivity in my life. At first, I was grappling with the condition here. The kids and people had a completely different mentality than the Americans. I wouldn't say immature, but carefree and people of joie de vivre. In the beginning, it seemed to be a cultural trauma for me where exchange of ideas was a bit stiff. The first school I chose was a day-boarding and all I used to do was cry, weeping for my old life back, missing my family-friends in the USA. The teachers tried their best to placate me and support in every way of life, which they did. I have got to say that the first couple of years were one of the difficult time periods of my life. I was just a little girl who wanted to resist change as much as she could. But after four years realizing this change that truly transformed my life, certainly urged me to do this episode.

Today, I want to express my beginning years of transforming into an Indian-American. Undoubtedly, it was a Herculean task; nevertheless, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me at the same time. Learning the diverse cultures here not only gave me immense exposure but also taught me to sometimes let go of life, seeing that everyday in Punjab is a celebration!
I keep unraveling whatever new I find in this country.

2020 has certainly been a transitional year for me because I became a spiritual Indian-American from just Indian-American. I believe that taken with a different perspective, this Corona Virus quarantine has been a regeneration and rejuvenation period for everyone, as deducted from my experience. After being incredibly enthused by the cultures here, I started exploring the peripheries of Hindu Mythology. Not even within a month's time, I got spiritual awakening. That's how my blogs and podcasts all began, realizing how deep my soul had gotten into! Now, India's rich repository of traditions and heritage has become an everlasting muse for me; whether its the magnificent Havelis of Rajasthan, inexplicable landscape of Ladakh or the mythologies surrounding Sita and Radha.  The transcontinental influences and ideas are evident from my views which are contemporary, modern as the American yet spiritual, cultural as the Indian. I aspire to guide the next generation into new waters so I could widen the aperture with my visions being complementary of this traditional heritage.

At last, all I can say is that I am happy for the change that occurred. If you think once in a while, change can even make you a better person. Proudly, I say that both India and American remain fundamental to who I am!!

The Beginning of 'Soul Talks!'

'The Sacred Truth Of The Universe' has decided to verbally interact with its receptive audience. So, it has started it's own podcast show on Anchor with the name of Soul Talks.

As everyone knows, not usually the face value is equivalent to place value. Sometimes, expressing what is constrained in your mind-made cuffs and in your soul, is as vital as having the most important meal of the day. How often do you tell your loved ones or anyone you trust, your feelings or the way your conscious is feeling. Myself being a teenager, I feel that this is a very crucial time-period of your life as we with pliable minds decide what we aspire to actually become in life. A better person or a confused one? So, 'The Sacred Truth Of The Universe' wants all the teens, including people of all other ages, to participate in this podcast show to relate with real-life examples, understanding the possible outcomes of it. So, join hands with me to form a bond that can break all the teenager as well as the serious situations in life. All the links and transcriptions of each episode will be posted on this blog.
